Create a family heirloom, one you can fill with dreams and fond memories by making this easy to build hope chest.
A lot of good ideas went into this project. Inside the chest is a sliding tray in which you can store jewelry and smaller knick-knacks. If you choose, you can build two drawers in the base of the unit as we did here, or make the chest deeper and use the drawer fronts for decoration only.
There's no need to have a great deal of experience to undertake this project. Besides drawing a plan that is clear and concise, we were careful to use construction methods that simplify the whole process. We don't expect anybody to have a thorough knowledge of dovetail joints! The pattern tells you what material to buy, what to saw out and what to assemble. You won't find an easier project that's as handsome as this.
Completed, the chest stands 44 inches wide, 22 inches tall and 22 inches deep.
