Weekend Workbench
A solid, well-designed workbench is as essential to a woodworker as an operating table to a surgeon, and is the most useful tool in the workshop. Apart from its basic function of providing a solid work surface, this workbench also incorporates storage capability for your most frequently used tools and supplies in the form of two drawers under the work surface and an open lower shelf of approximately 1.5 sq. m area.
The body of the bench is constructed of 5 cm x 10 cm timber to give it the required solidity, and the working surface we suggest is a solid-core door obtainable at most home centers. To reduce costs, look for a “second” or slightly flawed door, which should sell at a discount.
The plans for this project detail all you need to know to build the workbench, and come with a complete materials list, step-by-step instructions and illustrations.
