As for the desk, three key considerations went into its design.

First, the desk had to be large enough to accommodate a computer and yet not be so large as to take up the entire room. This "corner-based" solution works well to satisfy both requirements by making good use of the dead-space often associated with the corner of a room.

Secondly, the design had to be modular to fit most everyone's needs. That's why this popular plan shows how to build the desk extension separately. You can build one or more depending on your needs.

Thirdly, the entire desk had to be easy to move since you'll be using it for years. Therefore, instead of traditional joinery techniques, knock-down hardware was used in the assembly of most components of the desk.

The finished unit, as seen here, measures approximately seven feet long.
